IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT - The Future of the Wiki

Hello everyone. Today I am here to announce the biggest change to the wiki so far and the biggest that will likely ever affect it. As some of you may have noticed, I have been absent for quite some time here. However, this has not been time wasted. For several months now, I have been working with the heads of the World War II Forums and WW2 Talk on a project called the World War II Open Resource Group. Using the same mediawiki software, WW2.org is essentially a project like ours, yet with many benefits unavailable to us. Thus, I announce the merger between our projects, the WWII Wiki and WW2.org. I have brought this up in private to some editors here and now I make the announcement public. On our years here, Wikia has been a very good host…

Newsletter July 10, 2016

WWII Fact: Today, British general Bernard Montgomery's Eighth Army captured the city of Syracuse in Sicily in 1943.

Hello everyone once again! It being a couple of months since the last wiki newsletter, I decided that it was time for a new post. Quite a few changes have been implemented on the wiki in the months after the last newsletter, particularly in the past couple of weeks. Most noticeably perhaps is the new "Featured Articles" module that has been added to the wiki right rail. Ideally, this will give our very best articles more exposure and traffic. Also quite visible on the front page of the wiki is the improvement drive module that showcases what groups of articles and topics we want to focus on for the time being. More informatio…

Newsletter January 26, 2016

WWII Fact: Today in 1945, Soviet troops under the command of Georgi Zhukov crossed the original German-Polish border of 1939 and entered into Germany. Hello everyone! Welcome to a new year of new goals! As always, the newsletter is here to fill you in on what you may have missed in the past couple of months. For starters, one notable addition to the wiki has been our new set of official wiki avatars for use by any and all who wish to do so!

They can be found here: World War II Wiki:Avatars

Since this newsletter also covers news from December, I should mention that back in early December of last year, we exchanged articles with the Gas Mask and Respirator Wiki, adding many new articles about an otherwise unknown topic. In other news, the top na…

No Time to Edit V2

I've noticed in my several years here working on the wiki a saddening fact that I think can be prevented. Perhaps the most common reason I've heard as to why readers don't contribute is that they lack the time to do so. However, I would like to present the idea that there is still a way to contribute even when one has the idea they lack time. For one, it has often been noted that taking time off of a problem and completely distracting oneself with other activities before returning to the problem greatly increases overall creativity. As such, I can personally recommend the practice of editing the wiki to relax or to focus.

Also importantly, by editing the wiki, you can be assured that you are helping to build a better public knowledge of the…

Contest Over and a New Year

Hello everyone! Today is December 25, 2015 and our 'We'll be Home by Christmas!' contest has thus ended. Good job to all those who helped us try to reach our goal, and while that goal remains, many new articles were added and the wiki ultimately came out better because of it. Furthermore, not wanting to leave the most supportive users with nothing, the rewards will be handed out as previously planned. The overall winner of the contest was UM98, followed closely by Sean4333 and in third place, Unknown User 18. Honorable mention goes to Triangle21. I will be contacting each of you for your appropriate prizes.
