Sergei Gavrilovich Simonov (1894-1986) was a Soviet weapons designer who produced weapons for the Red Army during the Second World War. His inventions include the SKS-45 and the PTRS-41.


Born 4th October 1894 in what was then Fedotow (now known as Vladimir Oblast), died 6th May 1986 in Moscow. After WWI, he began work under arms designer Vladimir Grigoryevich Fyodorov at his design bureau. Following the Soviet Revolution, Simonov travelled to Moscow to study at the Polytechnic Institute, and then on to work at the Tula Arsenal.[1]
