The Second Battle of Guam was a battle between the United States of America and the Empire of Japan. Since December 10, 1941, Guam had been under Imperial Japanese control. The battle resulted in the recapture of Guam by the United States,[1] which allowed the construction of a number of airfields, these serving as the launching points for concentrated boming raids against Japan by B-29s of the newly formed 20th Air Force.[2]
