The SdKfz 253, fully designated the SdKfz 253 Leichter Gepanzerter Beobachtungskraftwagen, was half-track used by Germany during the early years of World War II. The 253 was a mobile artillery observation post and spotter platform and was part of the SdKfz 250 family. It usually accompanied forward tank elements for calling close artillery support. The 253 was similar in appearance to the SdKfz 250, but was fully enclosed for crew protection. Some 285 SdKfz 253s were produced by Demag/Wegman from 1940 to 1941.
