The M1941 Johnson Rifle is a semi-automatic rifle that was utilized by the United States during World War II.

It had a magazine capacity of ten rounds and a weight of about 4 kilograms.[1] The Johnson also had a length of 116. 5 centimeters and it took the .30-06 Springfield cartridge. It was designed by the Marine Corps Reserve, Col. Melvin M. Johnson and it had a muzzle velocity of 853 meters per second.[2]

The M1941 had adjustable iron sights to help accuracy as well as low recoil. Another feature of Johnson was a bayonet mount.[3] Although they were rejected as a standard service rifle; M1941s were still used during World War II and about 20,000-30,000 were made during the war.

During US Marine Corps tests for the M1941, it actually beat the M1 Garand in performance. However, it still wasn't chosen to be the standard service rifle. During World War II, the Dutch East Indies ordered large amounts of M1941 rifles to defend against Japanese invasion. However, the Dutch East Indies were captured before the shipments arrived. The M1941 was produced throughout World War II and as such was used in many different battles.
