Glasmine 43

A diagram of the Glasmine 43

The Glasmine 43 was an anti-personnel mine that was used by Germany during World War II.

Description

The Glasmine was made to be difficult to detect, which is why it is mainly composed of glass. The weight required to detonate the Glasmine 43 varied from nine kg to around eleven kg and the weight of the charge was about 200 grams. When armed, the mine is detonated when the glass pressure plate is stepped on or has pressure applied to it, breaking the shear plate and crushing the top of the chemical Bück fuse or tripping the mechanical Schücko fuse.[1]
