NR or nozh razvedchika literally meant "scout's knife".[1] It had a wooden handle and the blade length was 152.4mm or 6 in.
History[]
The NR-40 Combat Knife first entered combat in 1940. It was inspired by the Finnish Puukko knife and was developed with several modifications after seeing the puukko knife being used during the Winter War.[1] It saw extensive use by many Red Army troops throughout World War II.
