American troops celebrate V-J Day in Paris, 1945
V-J Day, Victory over Japan Day, or Victory in the Pacific Day is the public celebration of the Japanese unconditional surrender on September 2, 1945. Although the announcement of surrender was made on August 14, 1945, the day is commonly celebrated on September 2nd in United States. V-J Day officially commerates the end of the Pacific War and thus closing World War II.
