    Newsletter January 26, 2016

    January 27, 2016 by Fargo84

WWII Fact: Today in 1945, Soviet troops under the command of Georgi Zhukov crossed the original German-Polish border of 1939 and entered into Germany. Hello everyone! Welcome to a new year of new goals! As always, the newsletter is here to fill you in on what you may have missed in the past couple of months. For starters, one notable addition to the wiki has been our new set of official wiki avatars for use by any and all who wish to do so!

They can be found here: World War II Wiki:Avatars

Since this newsletter also covers news from December, I should mention that back in early December of last year, we exchanged articles with the Gas Mask and Respirator Wiki, adding many new articles about an otherwise unknown topic. In other news, the top na…

    The Future of the Wiki

    December 13, 2015 by Fargo84

In the years I've been here on the wiki, I could never have imagined what kind of growth and development would lead up to this point. I've seen users of all kinds come and go, but one point has and will always stay the same. We are a collaborative project, thus all of our content comes from our hard-working editors who dedicate their time to the common goal of providing free and accessible knowledge about World War II to all.

That is why it is imperative that you, the reader, understand that the future of the wiki truly depends you. While the hosting for the wiki is free, the content is as well. Our editors are not paid, nor forced to do anything. We contribute our time and our knowledge purely for the learning of others.

    Recently, there has…

    Newsletter September 19, 2015

    September 20, 2015 by Fargo84

Hello everyone! Sorry for the delay in newsletters, but I wanted to make sure that as much news as possible was in this edition. Let us start off of course with the World War II fact of the day as always. Today in 1944, Finland signed an armistice with the Soviet Union. Anyway, in these past weeks since the last newsletter, quite a lot has happened. Perhaps the most notable of these events is our shout-out from the YouTuber, The Mighty Jingles and the subsequent influx of new contributors that has followed. As noted in a previous announcement, we are very happy to welcome all of you who saw our shout-out and hope you will continue to edit with us for a long time. Also being done one the wiki was the complete rewriting of our Manual of Style…

Anyway, among the big news on the wiki is our new Twitter account! I've already gone ahead and started posting the latest updates on the wiki there so be sure to check it out! I'll post the link below. Among other things, I've also gone ahead and started renovating the wiki home page in an attempt to make it more SEO friendly. Time will only tell if it makes any difference, but I do hope … Read more >

    The To-Do List

    March 1, 2015 by Fargo84

Hello everyone! Today I come with a different form of newsletter/update. Today I will be discussing the various things that will have to be done on the wiki in the next couple of months. While they may not be absolute priorities, they are things that I have marked as being necessary to the development of the wiki. They can be found below:

Not only do these small pieces of text help the wiki's SEO, they help our contributors to know the source of images. This is especially important for the Image Archive which relies heavily on sourcing historical images.

Ultimately, our goal on the wiki is to have all articles up to the highest level of quality possible. However, covering such a broad topic, that simply is not possible yet. Regardless, the …

Hello everyone! It has been quite a while since the previous wiki newsletter so I suppose it is about time that a new one is released. Let's start off with the fact of the day which is that today in 1944, the siege of Budapest had begun. As for changes to the wiki, besides the obvious changing improvement drive, is fairly minimal. As is now usual, the rest of the minor changes will be listed below. Our spotlight from Wikia has since ended. On a global scale, the new navigation bar at the top of each page has been modified for a new "modern" look. Back to the wiki, infoboxes have been implemented on many more articles and we are ever closer to our goal of maintaining high quality articles.

The Wiki has now hit an incredible milestone. We ha…

Hello everyone! After some hiatus, I have come to bring you a slightly different update. This one will be honoring the 75th Anniversary of World War II which took place on September 1st of this year. World War II was one of the most destructive wars in human history with well over 60 million casualties suffered on both sides, mostly civilians. The result of the conflict was the creation of two global superpowers and the beginning of the Cold War. Another direct effect was the advancement of technology beyond imagination with the full implementation of jet engines in new aircraft designs, effective radar systems, ballistic missiles, etc.

As a historical wiki, it is our duty to document the histories of those brave combatants who gave their …

Hello everyone! Ideally if you are reading this, you were directed here by the new wiki-wide notifications at the bottom of the screen. If not, then clearly they are a work in progress. Before I continue, today's historical fact is the appointment of General Bernard Montgomery as head of the Eighth Army in North Africa. Anyway, as many of you may have noticed, I have imported some scripts to implement some new tools for editing such as the ready-made edit summary list. Also notably, the top navigation bar has been dramatically changed to be far more effective at providing links to as many important sections of the wiki as possible. The new Community section has several sub-headings for basic policies and guidelines, links to the About Us pa…

Hello fellow users and readers and welcome back to the newsletter! Today's fact of the is the withdrawal of German troops from the city of Kharkov and Soviet liberation, taking place in 1943. Anyway, nothing that is too critical has come up on the wiki, though I cannot stress enough the importance of the newly rennovated Image Archive. I and the other editors have been working tirelessly to find more unique and better quality photographs of WWII. So far, our work has been posted in the image archive which features all photos on the wiki that were taken during the war. As a complement to the articles on the wiki, I highly recommend that any and all readers go to the image archive. Some of the photographs featured there are the best the wiki…

maneuver article is one that is almost exclusive to the wiki!]]Hello fellow users and readers and happy holidays. Today's fact for the day is the commencement of the Barrents Sea, a naval battle which raged between German commerce raiders and British merchant ships en route to the USSR. Anyway, as some may have already noticed, I have implemented several new banners and templates to standard lists and directories to make them more user friendly and appealing. Furthermore, with the new gained technology and experience in the creation of such graphical designs, it would be highly appreciated if any users or readers have any suggestions on where next to use them and update the wiki.

Moving on, the stub movement has finally ended, with the 'Com…
